here are various systems containing very large numbers of elements within which individual elements behave randomly. This leads us to examine the collective characteristics of these systems at a higher level. A good starting point are the systems found in physics, in which low-level disorganised structures develop into higher-level structured systems. This lecture introduces the mathematical interpretations of such systems.
